In fire alarm system, manual call point (MCP or pull station) is an important device that sends input to the system and notify impending danger. When implementing manual call point, it is important to consider below:

Location
For a fire alarm button to be effective, it should be placed at main exits or fire points. General rule of thumbs is to install devices evenly throughout the area and in visible locations.

Placement Height
Placement height of between 1.2 to 1.6 meter is recommended. This height is ideal because children or persons on wheelchair could also reach the device at this height with ease.

Protective Cover
For buildings where accidental triggering of fire alarm notification would be costly, a manual call point cover is recommended to prevent misuse.

Voice Alert
For areas where malicious use require notification, an emergency telephone is recommended to be installed beside the device. E.g. Train station, emergency center.

Special Environment
For areas where weather cause provide dust & water penetration into the manual call point, a weatherproof selection is suggested. For chemical plants, refineries or other explosion-prone environment, explosion-proof manual call point would be a more suitable choice.
